Brinkley, OH September 12, 2026 –(PR.com)– Herb “Flight Time” Lang, who spent 18 years with the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters and competed three times on CBS’s “The Amazing Race,” is running for mayor of Brinkley, Arkansas — and he’s telling the story first on “Sport-N-Soul,” the weekly faith-based sports series, Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET on The NOW Television Network.

Brinkley is a town of roughly 2,700 in Monroe County, about halfway between Memphis and Little Rock. It is where Lang grew up on Chicago Street, played All-State basketball, and was elected senior class president before a career that would take him to nearly 90 countries.

He did not plan on going back to run it.

“It definitely wasn’t on my bingo card,” Lang tells host Tony Reynolds in the episode, describing how his old high school basketball coach first raised the idea in 2017, weeks after his Globetrotters career ended.

The decision came eight years later, on a highway. Driving from Brinkley to Conway last month, with his father’s encouragement in his ear and his mother’s for the past three years, Lang says a voice told him it was time. “I’m gonna show the world how a town, a city, should be led the right way — with kindness, with abundance,” he says.

The résumé is unusual for a small-town mayoral race. Lang joined the Globetrotters in 1999 out of Centenary College of Louisiana, where he led his conference in scoring and won the National Association of Basketball Coaches Slam Dunk Contest on ESPN. Over 18 seasons as player and coach he performed on six continents and met both Pope Francis and President Barack Obama — the range that gave his memoir, Projects, Popes and Presidents, its title. American audiences know him from elsewhere: Lang and teammate Nate “Big Easy” Lofton competed on three seasons of “The Amazing Race,” finishing second in Season 18.

Saturday’s episode, “Harlem Globetrotter Meets God’s Gang,” pairs Lang with Nimrod Avraham May, the Israeli entrepreneur and former Disney executive behind God’s Gang, an animated series built around young heroes from different faiths and cultures. The property has grown to approximately 1.6 million subscribers, and Lang now serves as an ambassador for it. Their conversation moves from basketball and world travel to faith, kindness, and what it means to lead — before Lang turns to Brinkley, and to a campaign whose stated priorities include housing and project development.
